| Well, this is it. i am making the switch to blogger and so it's probably the end of the road for my xanga site. It's had a nice 3 or 4 year run. But without any further ado.... my future musings will be found at:
WWW.STEVE-MARKS.COM
In particular, my wife (who also has a blog here) and I are about to embark on "The Master Cleanse", a 10-day detoxifying system that thoroughly cleases your body from all the harmful poisons that build up in there over the years. I'm blogging daily about that journey on the new site if for some reason you wanted to follow along. | | |
| About a year ago my dad, a PE teacher at Lodi High School, along with a couple other coaches helped to save a young man's life after he collapsed during class. The boy would have died were it not for the fast action by my dad and the other men. The boy was able to walk during graduation, play his saxophone in the high school band, and even personally thanked the teachers for saving his life.
Now he is bringing a lawsuit against the school district. He is saying his life could have been "saved quicker". Apparently this is the kind of "thanks but no thanks" response one can now have in our money-hungry lawsuit-happy society we live in.
I'm linking the recent article about the lawsuit along with the original story of the life saved. I'm glad this is getting press, and I do hope there is some level of public outcry.
UPDATE... I just found out the ABC affiliate TV station in San Francisco ran a news story on it. People in Nor Cal are not happy about this.
 Here are the PE coaches along with Adam Kloose, the student they saved, one month after the incident.

| So the family was all in town for Thanksgiving, and what do we decide to do? That's right, a little good ol' fashioned karaoke (Martinelli's-microphone and all). We decided to shoot a little video footage, and lo and behold (thanks to me and a little time wasting) it ends up on YouTube. But I decided I'd post it here too...
My sister Heidi is a star in the making.

| And with only a week before I am officially married, my head is spinning. I am a little overwhelmed with both details and the sheer excitement and emotion leading up to a pretty big day in the life of yours truly. It looks like all the major pieces are in place: I have a bride, she's showing up, our families and friends will be there, and there will be food. Oh, and arrangements are all set for a kick-ass honeymoon. Caribbean cruise.
Lately, the thing has been to notice all of the "last (fill-in-the-blank) as a single person" as the wedding approaches. Like I just finished my last Saturday Night Live as a single man. Or tomorrow will be my list time at church as a single man. I'm guessing I have already eaten my last barbecued hotdog as a single man. And for some of you, this may be the last time you hear from me before the wedding, as this is my last xanga post as a single man.
<tear>
It's all good, though, as I have scored the most amazing woman a guy could hope for. I'm so lucky, and I can't wait to start our married life together.

So for those of you who'll be at the wedding, I can't wait to see you then. Otherwise, I'll catch you on the flipside (what does that mean, anyway?)

| Well looky who's back in the Sweet 16?

The mighty mighty Bruins behind coach Howland. I was so excited three years ago when UCLA dumped Steve Lavin... best move we made (second only to getting rid of scandal-laden, no-leadership coach Bob Toledo en route to this year's 10-win season). And now that move seems to have paid off big time. Bruins looked a little razzled by the Crimson Tide zone-D, but they made the plays -- though not the free throws -- when they needed to to pull out the win.
UCLA in the Sweet 16. I feel like I'm in college all over again. And I love it.
